Secondary glazing provides a secondary form of window that is fitted, on the inside, immediately behind a primary window. There are two major reasons for having secondary glazing installed in your home. Secondary glazing provides an ideal solution where increased thermal insulation is required e.g. in listed or historical buildings or in a conservation area where by-laws required that primary windows must be single glazed. Secondary glazing is also specified in situations where noise reduction is necessary and desirable e.g. for hospitals and houses on busy main roads. However, the system is suitable for installation in new build and refurbishment projects, in domestic homes and commercial properties including schools, colleges, hospitals, universities, hotels and offices.

Aluminium Secondary Glazing & Styles

Elwyns supply and install a variety of styles to suit just about every application, including Horizontal Sliders, Hinged Units, Fixed and Lift-Out Units and Vertical Sliders. We can supply the aluminium secondary glazing frames in white as standard but can accommodate any RAL colour, upon request, to suit individual requirements.

Glazing

There is a wide range of glass types from which to choose such as clear, patterned, toughened, laminated and acoustic glass. Varying degrees of improved thermal insulation can be achieved by the use of Low E glass and the harmful effects of ultra violet radiation can also be reduced whilst solar heat is let through. Specialist films can be adhered to the glass that further increase thermal insulation and add to the security of your premises.

Security

Second glazing provides a barrier to uninvited intruders and in so doing adds to the security of your property particularly where safety glass and films are used.

Maintenance

Aluminium secondary glazing requires a minimal amount of maintenance in order to keep the surfaces clean. All moving parts should be checked annually and lubricated appropriately, where necessary. All aluminium profiles should be wiped clean of dust and grime using a mild detergent in water at three monthly intervals. Abrasive or corrosive cleaners and materials are not recommended.

Glass should be cleaned in the normal way with warm, mild soapy water or a quality glass cleaner.
